It traces its origins back to 1956, although it didn't become the EMI that we know it as until 1973. Five years later, the British company started an American counterpart: EMI America Records. The entity changed hands more times, becoming EMI Manhattan Records and later EMI USA. It was home to such artists as David Bowie, Kate Bush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.
